I started Zipflbobbing when I was 8 years old. I got a Zipflbob as a birthday present and didn’t stop ever since. But riding was just for fun of course. When many years later, in 2000, some of my friends started to organize the first official race in Kitzbühel, I was part of it. I reached the final run but unluckily I finished fourth and last in the final run. After my second fourth place some friends called me for fun “The eternal fourth” (kind of: the eternal bridesmaid), but fortunately this didn’t last long. My greatest personal success was to win the European Open, a Zipflcross with 350 participants, in my hometown Kitzbühel four years later.
Since that time I had many great experiences with the Zipflbob sport. Thus, a “suboptimal” one was at the first Heli-Bobbing trip in Lech, Austria: I broke my tailbone jumping with the Zipflbob and landing on a rock. I had to ride another hour. Personally, I would not recommend trying that at home. Anyways, it is great to go for a ride with friends in the night or to participate at all kinds of Zipflbob-Events. You always get to know friendly people that are interested in this pretty new sport. And be sure, people stop laughing at this sport as soon as they see you going downhill.
I finished my sports management study in Innsbruck in 2008. Now I study Applied Economics and will complete it soon (hopefully). Right now I initiated a project for designing a new and revolutionary Zipflbob.
